About

Daniel is a believer that open source is about people. He’s spent the last decade proving that you can use data to make communities healthier, more diverse, and more sustainable. Whether he’s digging into research or helping a foundation bridge a gap, he’s always looking for ways to give back to the ecosystem that started it all.

Daniel’s path started in academia, where he earned a PhD in Empirical Software Engineering. But rather than staying in the ivory tower, he co-founded Bitergia in 2012 to put that research into practice. He started in the trenches as a developer, moved into consultancy to solve real-world problems, and now leads the ship as CEO.

For Daniel, being CEO means “working outdoors” and making sure the open source world has what it needs to thrive while ensuring the Bitergia team has the support and tools to do their best work.
